Love, Love, Love

In honor of Valentine's Day, David's school shelf was stocked with new heart-themed activities Monday morning.  So far this week, he's been sorting hearts by size, playing roll a heart, and stringing hearts and straws.

We were lucky enough to have Macy with us on Valentine's Day.  She and David helped make Raspberry Cream Cheese Heart Tarts.  They did just about everything - rolling, cutting, scooping, measuring, pouring, mixing, mushing, assembling - and then I tossed the tarts into the oven.

The result was a tray of yummy homemade mini heart-shaped pop tarts!

In the afternoon, we broke out the candy hearts for what I was hoping would be a fun math activity.  I was super excited about it, but feared that the kids would be less than impressed.  On the contrary, they were completely engaged and came up with even more learning possibilities than I had planned.  We sorted hearts, counted hearts, graphed hearts, compared hearts, added hearts, colored hearts...and of course ate a few hearts, too.

We just couldn't get enough of the Valentine's Day fun, so we've declared it Love Week.  Last night, we enjoyed some dessert nachos (I adapted the recipe just a bit to allow for heart-shaped chips and to use up some of the dark chocolate hershey kisses that have been hanging around).

Happy Valentine's Day!
